I have been blogging about old kerosene lamps.  Several people have asked about having a night light in the bottom of a Gone With The Wind lamp.  Most old oil lamps did not have a night light in the bottom of the lamp.  (It is nice to have one though).  The old GWTW lamps have metal oil reservoirs in the top, along with some sort of opening to fill the lamp.  It is desirable not to have  hole drilled in the oil reservoir in order to electrify the lamp.  GWTW lamps need to have matching shades...exactly.  Some of them are exquisite.

One way to identify and old lamp chimney is the absence of a ring of glass at the top and bottom.  No ring means it is old.   Becky
